This will be short, well maybe not

Well, just had an eye op. Took 10 minutes, but now I can see 100 times better. With the amount of time I spend in the hospital, I should call it my 2nd home:)
Got a new job at Geysir Bar and Bistro. We served 121 last Saturday with three of us in the kitchen and that was just dinner service. Because of our schedules, I can only work in the evenings during the week and all day every weekend. Which means NO MORE PARTYING FOR HAUKUR:(. Though he does not seem to mind. I guess what gets him through is that we are making money, not like it stays long in our account.
Well enough about us and more about Matthias. He had his 6th month check-up on Monday. The Doctor was very impressed. Even though Matthias is under the average weight he is still healthy, strong and happy. He now weighs 6,45 kilos and is 67cm. We are so proud:).
Even though he can not walk yet, he like to try. So we got him one of those walking chair thingy- ma-bobs and his racing all over the place. We'll get it on film so you can see.
For you guys in Dk, we are not coming for Christmas but rather my parents are coming here. Sorry about that. We decided that the best thing for us was to work a lot, pay off debt then go back to school once Matthias is in kindergarten. But don't be dismayed, we'll come for a visit next year. Love you lots.

Rock 'n' Roll Baby at 6 months

I think Matthias has a future in music. He likes to listen to music and dance a little.
It's hard to believe that only six months ago, this little cutie was born. Time really go's by fast. Matthias is now able to sit in a high-chair without support, it starting to stand balancing himself on his own. The funniest is when he is angry and screams and grunts to get my attention. As soon as I look at him, he smiles and laughs, like nothing happened. We're trying to teach him how to put his dummy in his mouth, but the only thing he likes to put in his mouth is his fingers. He sucks on them as if there was BBQ sauce on them and he couldn't survive without them. Well I know he'll grow out of that. Speaking of growing, Matthias is already 64cm and most of the clothes we have for him at this age are getting way too small. He'll soon be wearing his daddy's clothes.
There is 182 days till Matthias' 1st birthday, so i expect some huge presents from all of you:). I'll post a wish list to make it easier for you.

Now he can voice himself

Yesterday, Matthias made his first reall sounds. It's a Bu sound with lots and lots of spit. Experts say babies master saying Ba ba, Mama and Dada first. I'm hoping he says mama first. I think my heart would break if he says Dada. Even though it often happens this way mothers still feel like they're the ones that spend the most time with the little one and most of that time is spent repeating the word mama over and over again in the hopes of making it stick.
Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. My baby is on a roll and the way things are going now, he'll never stop :)

In Norway
Haukur was in Norway last weekend, because his grandfather on this fathers side was sick and in hospital. It had been a long time since Haukur last saw his grandfather and was glad to have spoken to him. Even though I have never met him, my heart goes out to him and to the rest of the family.

5 Months old and eating

I know it has been too long and everyone is getting angry with me for not writing. So here goes. Matthias is now 5 months old and starting to eat solids. We started off with one teaspoon of rice porridge. That seems so little, but for babies it was enough. That night, boy did we suffer. Matthias kept waking up every hour and would not go back to sleep. It was hardest on, because I had to do all the waking up and feeding. Well at least I knew I could wake Haukur up if need be. Things only seemed to get worse in the days that followed. But the worst was when Haukur had to go to Norway for the weekend and for the first time in 5 months I had to take care of Matthias solo. The second night Haukur was away, Matthias decided that he would wake up every half hour and scream bloody murder. This continued till 5 in the morning. Oh how I long for the days where he sleeps through the night. With my luck, that won't happen till he's a year old.:)
Since we started feeding Matthias porridge, he is also starting to eat some fruits and veggies. Let me tall you, that is not a pretty sight.
Yesterday was Matthias' 5 month vaccinations and he was so brave. Didn't cry, just smiled and laughed like it was nothing. The only troubling news was that he is still under the average weight for babies his age. He weighs 6150g and is 63cm. Everyone says he is going to be tall and skinny like his daddy, thank god, because I'm short and round:).

Growing up

It has been a long time since I last wrote and people are getting impatient. So here is an up date. We went to Denmark, which was a huge help for me. My mom and dad were great. They helped me/us get to grips with been parents and getting Matthias' colic under control. I finally was able to get a descent nights sleep. Thank You mom and dad for all you did.
So we were in DK for a month and managed to go to Roskilde on the last day of the festival. The weather was better than expected and the music was great. The only downfall was the Que to get in, which took us about an hour to get through. Consoling ourselves with warm beer after warm beer.... great... After the all the concerts where finished, Haukur and I decided to go home. At this point it was 12 kl at night. Instead of taking the train from the festival sight, some one suggested we walk to the train station and take a train from there. Well one hour later we finally got to the station and it was packed. Apparently, we weren't the only ones going home. After sitting on the cold platform with no beer to sooth our growing frustration, we finally managed to squeeze onto a train and made our way back to Copenhagen. In the end, when we got home, it was 4 in the morning and the sun was shining. After having sore feet and been exhausted, I don't think we'll ever do that again. Well at lest not this year.

Look... I can read

Some say two month old babies can not read, well here is Matthias proving them wrong. Okay, maybe he's not actually reading, but at least looking at the pictures while I read the offers in Super Best and my mom looks at the TV Guide.
It's funny to think, that in a few short months, he will be able to at least hold the paper.

Sunday Picnic

The weather was great on Sunday. The hottest I've been in, for a long time. It was around 26 degrees and rising. I think it might have been a little too hot for Matthias, seen that the only weather he has experienced is the summer heat in Iceland. Which I might add is not all that hot, around 15 drgrees. Wow... where's the sun block:).
My mom you know, but the other persone is Katrine. Whom I went to IB in Danmark with and where very good friends. Katrine instantly fell in love with Matthias and offered to baby-sit. With all my friends offering to baby-sit for me, I should move them to Iceland and be a free woman. All in all another great day with great weather.

Great Grandmother Elly

Elly is Matthias' danish great grandmother and a wonderful woman. My only regret is that I don't speak fluent danish and there for can not talk to her as much as I would like. But with Matthias, he is going to learn danish, so he doesn't have that same problem. I would like them to be as close as possible.
On the Plane

This was Matthias' first trip on a plane. He did so well when we took off, and while we were in the air. He was the perfect baby. But because he can't pop his ears himeself, I had to feed him while we were descending. With feeding comes air and with air comes non-stop crying. And boy did he not stop until we had landed and everyone was off the plan. The nicest thing, was that the other passengers didn't say a word, except "ooo, what a cute babay" or "Don't worry, it'll soon be over". So I guess, all in all that was a good flight. It could have been a whole lot wores.

Doing Great:)

Yesterday, Matthias and I went to the nurse for our 8 week check-up. As always, I was nervous, that she would say something was wrong, or that he still isn't gaining enough weight. But to my surprise, she gave us the all clear. This means, Matthias now weighs 4,470kg. This put a huge smile on both our faces... Yes... Matthias smiled at the news... Ingibjörg, the nurse thought that he wouldn't have grown much in the past 2 weeks, but boy was she surprised at the fact that he had grown 3,5cm, so now he 57,5cm long. We have a feeling Matthias is going to be tall like his father. Thank god, cause I'm short... not good...
Today Matthias gave me the biggest smile yet. This time his smile was so big, I could see all of his gums. And I swear he also was trying to laugh and talk to me. That would have made my year, but he is too young to talk. And because he going to tri lingual, it will take him a little longer than most.

Amma Anna & Afi Sigma
This is Sigma, One of Matti's Islandic grandfathers. He is a really great man and I think when Matti grows a little older, they will have a great time together.
And this lovely lady is Anna. Haukur's mother and Matti's grandmother. This is a very special woman to me. When I first came to Iceland, she made me really feel at home. And most imortantly, Anna became a mother to me, someone I could rely on and talk to.
Grandma Nicky & And Grandpa Jørn

This handsome man is my father. Holding his first grandchild. Aren't they so cute. He was here when Matti was born, but had to leave only a few days later. He never got to see much of him. Well he only lives in Danmark so it's not that far, just a 3 hour flight:)
This Lovely young woman is Nicky, my mother. Defently to young to be a grandmother, yet here she is and loving every minute of it. The only sad thing is that she only lives 3 hours away, yet can not see him as much as she wants. Well Just for her we (Matti, Haukur and I) are going to Danmark for a month:).

Matthias

I know I haven't written since Aprill, but I'm still getting used to this whole Blog thing.
Well I'm going to use my blog to talk about Matthias and his development. Well he is now one month and three weeks old. On the 4th of June, he'll be 2 months. The last time he was wieghed, he was 4,260kg and was 54cm long. On the first, he goes again to the doc, I'll up date after that. So far Matti has smiled at Haukur and I a couple of times. We got way too excited when he did it the first time. Now we are waiting for him to start laughing, but that will happen when he is ready. His coordinations a getting a lot better. He can almost put his pacifier back into his mouth when it falls out. OK it's nothig, but it's a sing that he's getting there. His neck musculs are also getting stronger. He can hold his head up for almost two minutes...wow... I know... Matthias' hair is still brown and dtraight, His eyes are light brown. I was hoping that he wouls get his fathers eye color, but the blue did not come through. Oh well... He his still the most gorgious baby I have ever seen.
Oh yeah Matti and I are going to Danmark on the 7th of June and Haukur will join us there on th 30th. That's 3 weeks way from Him;(
