Christmas 2007

Here we are in Danmark, celebrating Matthias´first Christmas and New Years. Even though he had one last year, he was too young to realise what was going on. Hopefully now he will be able to remember this. When we arrived, it took Matti all of two seconds to get used to my parents place and them. Soon he was running around and screaming with joy.

He has had his bad days, but all in all he is having the best time of his life. My mother and Matti are inseparable, all he has to say is AMMA... AMMA...AMMA and my mom comes running.:) I also think he loves saying Afi, which means grandfather in Icelandic.

When Christmas finally came around, we had a great meal, which my dad and I made, then opened most of Matthias´s presents. Took a break to have Ris almond, where I got the almond and gift. At this time, it was around 10 , we put Matthias to sleep and then opened all the presents for the rest of us. Great presents, great wine and great company. That´s what's happened so far.

A Terrible Scare

On the 28th of July, we had a terrible scare. Matthias suffered a febrile convulsion, which is when the temperature goes high very quickly and the body can not handle it. His eyes rolled to the back of his head, lost consciousness then went into convulsions. This all happened while I was holding him. I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life, neither has Haukur. At first we had no idea what was going on, then we realized the attack. Without a seconds hesitation, we jumped into the car and headed for the emergency room. There are a few things I am every grateful for that day, besides the fact that Matthias was fine after, was that we had a car and that we didn't have to wait in line at the emergency room. Most of all I am grateful that I was not alone with Matti when it happened. I don't know what I would have done.
With some children, they go into febrile convulsions every time they have a high fever. I just hope this will not be the case with Matthias. As a child I suffered from the same thing, but mine was worse. I had two attacks every day for about one and a half weeks. I can now understand what my mom and grandparents went through. I remember my grandmother telling me, that once she had to throw me into a fountain, just to bring down my temperature. Back then, the doctors in Zimbabwe had no idea what was wrong with me, so it was a while before they new what to do. Thank god that is not the case now. Now all we have to do, is try and keep his temperature down with paracetamol and give him cool baths. We're keeping our fingers crossed that it won't happen a gain.

First Day Of School

Matthias had a great first day at school. As soon as we got there, he went straight to the other kids. To a child settled into the program, they start very slowly, half an hour at a time. So for the first half hour Matti was there, he completely forgot that we were there. Only when it was time to leave, he started to complain. The days that followed were very much similar, as soon as we get there he runs off and plays with the other kids. He loves it.

Almost 4 months worth:(

I'm so bad at this. It's been almost 4 month and I haven't updated you all. I should be more diligent about this. Any whoo... since the last time, Matti has grown two more teeth, the two upper ones and is starting to pick up his Cheerios by himself. I know it's a little late for him to be starting this, but I don't care. At least he's started. In the walking department, Matthias walks around the table and is moving from furniture to bookshelves and back again. He stands on his own for about 30 seconds and getting longer by the second. That's my boy. In the clothes department Matthias is too big, or should I say too long for the clothes for his age range, so we have to buy a size bigger. Like his father, his arms are to long for any of the shirts.Well as they say, "A growing boy has to eat" and boy does this boy eat. At present, he's eating us out of house and home. OH... AND DID I MENTION THAT MATTHIAS IS TURNING 1 YEARS OLD ON WEDNESDAY... Time really has gone by so fast. It feels like yesterday when we brought him home from the hospital in his little snow outfit. I think I'm going to cry. This is for those living in Iceland who read my blog. This Sunday we're having an open birthday party for Matti. Meaning starting from 1 o'clock, any one can come over and say happy birthday to Matti. You are welcome to bring presents:). There will be drinks and snacks all day. So please come:)
Well I think that enough for now. Happy Easter to everyone.
